EU is at the top of the Vietnam seafood import market.

According to the Agriculture and Rural development department, with 320 millions USD got in June, the export turn-over of seafood in the first half of this year is nearly 1.7 billions USD, reduced over 11% compared to the same period last year.


Among the Vietnam seafood consumer markets, EU is at the top, with 357 millions USD, gained over 26%; next is Japan.

For the products, Pangasius is still at the top by controling the EU, US markets; the second is shrimps with the main market is Japan. Now, the Russia market has many needs to consum multiformly and heavily for the Pangasius. For forcasting , the export turn-over of this products in 2009 may gain about 1.3 billion USD, beyond the plan of one billions USD that proposed from the beginning of this year.

Howerver, with the Agriculture and Rural development department’s recent assessment, the global economic degradation’s impact makes many seafood products reduce the price, difficult to consum.

Besides,the Pangasius, a valuable product, reduced the yield because of the China’s ban for fishing, the volume of export Pangasius just gain nearly 18.300 tons, reduced 17.5% and the turn-over reduced 23%.

Forcasting that the difficult tendency in producing and consuming the seafood product will continue in the rest of this year, not only from the export market, but also from the phase of the process material. For this reason, the export turn-over of this products can reduce 15% to 20% compared with 4.5 billions USD of the last year.
