This not only brings more strength for Vietnamese pangasius on the global market but also avoids to suffer miscarriage of justice and suits the trend of developing firmly.

Board of instructing manufacture and consuming pangasius in Mekong Delta have just hold a meeting to discuss firm development for farming, processing and exporting pangasius. 

Forming pangasius association

Sticking bar codes for pangasius will help both farmers and export enterprises. “Before that, enterprises and processing factories just take the reason that the fish is not qualified and unclear to force the price. Farmers do not have any certificate for their fish. When they have bar codes, it is difficult to force price” a representative analyses. The old method of manufacturing causes difficulties to farmers and enterprises. For example, some batches of export pangasius are sent back due to contamination. And this has repeated for several times but they do not know which stage they are contaminated, and where the fish come from. “When fish has bar codes, Vietnamese pangasius will have more advantages on the market and avoid blame causing bad affect to this strategic product”. Many representatives hope.

According to consideration of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the shaping of the Board of instructing manufacture and consuming pangasius in Mekong Delta has proved the importance of pangasius, a strategic product of Mekong Delta and the whole country. Also in the meeting, members have voted Mr Huynh The Nang, Vice president of An Giang people’s committee to be the section head of forming pangasius association and Mr Nguyen Son Hai, representative of the Service of Aquaculture in the south of Vietnam to be the vice section head. Members consist of: Service of Aquaculture, Vasep, Ministry of the Interior, directors and vice directors of Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of provinces and cities, big enterprises of exporting…

According to the board of instructing, provinces should deploy the registering of households of farming pangasius according to the instruction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, especially sticking bar codes for pangasius. This meets the demands of countries of exporting pangasius on over the world which suitable to the trend of developing firmly and long lasting. Because up to now, households just know how to farm and sell fish but not concern about “farming diary” so if there is problem, we will not know where the problem comes from. Mr Nguyen Van Thanh, Director of  An Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, permanent member of the board of forming pangasius association said that sticking bar codes is very necessary. Managing agencies will cooperate with a consulting company to instruct farmers. “When selling fish to enterprises, they just need see the bar codes and know the condition of farming zones. Even when the product is on the dinning table, if there is problem, the source can be detected by the bar codes” Mr Thach said. This project can be taken out in 2012.
